Douglas United Methodist Church Site

The Douglas UMC garden was planted on the old parsonage empty lot.

Rather than mow the grass, they decided to harvest vegetables. In their first year, they built four raised beds, 22 X 4 feet long.

For year two, they plan to add 2 more beds, 22 X 2 feet long. Four fruit trees were also planted in the community with hopes of produce by 2013.

A main gardener with some assistance by novices, oversees the project, but throughout the summer, community visitors could be found pulling a weed along with a beet. The produce goes to local homes and the excess is distributed at the church's food bank.
